Hi, My Name is Tom Roche.
I am not a solicitor, barrister or in any way associated with the ‘legal’ profession in Ireland or elsewhere. I know nothing about the ‘law’ in Ireland. However, as a longtime member of the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA), the Regional Centre of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development (RCE Dublin) based at Dublin City University (DCU) and the UBUNTU Network based at the University of Limerick (UL), I do know something about injustice and associated human rights matters.
For the past 35 years I have worked to help Indigenous communities stay in their homes – their forests. Over 1.6 billion people depend on forests for food or fuel, and some 70 million people worldwide – including many Indigenous communities – call forests home. Forests provide us with oxygen, shelter, jobs, water, nourishment and fuel. Ireland’s role in the illegal and often bloody international timber trade threatens their existence. A Global Witness report tells us that ‘more than 2,100 land and environmental defenders were killed globally between 2012 and 2023.’
As well as organising the RACE to FREE Donziger, today I am also fighting an Irish Bank – PTSB for the right to stay in my own home. You can learn more about my RACE to SAVE my HOME here…
My reason for creating and maintaining this website is for education and awareness raising reasons only – nothing else. I do not ask for or raise funds for this work. On this website, my only aim is to share with you my personal experience on how my decades of development education work with schools all over Ireland and I personally have been affected emotionally and mentally by TEXACO’s GREENWASHING and how the Irish NGO sector has allowed the rot of Corporate GREENWASHING in schools to set in and undermine years of good development education (DE) work and on-the-ground activism on behalf of the Irish tax-payer..
Stopping that insideous rot starts with you!
